Inspiration for creating ‘Ike Outside the Box

Aloha pumehana kākou,
‘O Phoenix Maimiti Valentine ko‘u inoa. Ke noho nei au ma Mākaha.  ‘O Ka‘ala ku‘u mauna. ‘O Hōnua ku‘u wailele. He umikūmāono o‘u makahiki. He haumāna au. O wau kahi kupa o ka houna. Welina! A fond greeting to everyone. My name is Phoenix Maimiti Valentine. I live in Mākaha. My mauna is Mt. Ka‘ala. My waterfall is Hōnua. I am a 16 year old Homeschooler & a citizen of the world. Greetings!

We’re all world citizens, and uniquely shaped by our ‘āina (land) & the mo‘olelo (stories, myths) that makes our moku (district) special. We are shaped through the mana‘o (ideas & beliefs) of our kūpuna (elders, grandparents), ‘ohana (family), and Lāhui (community). We are influenced by our environment, people, and the experiences we have. We all have ‘ike (knowledge & wisdom) to share. We are natural students and learn from many sources. "A‘ohe pau ka ‘ike, i ka Hālau ho‘okahi" (All knowledge is not found in one source), is a famous ‘Ōlelo No‘eau (Hawaiian Proverb) our kūpuna understood. Knowledge is everywhere. ‘Ike is a gift! Pass on the blessings and keep learning.

Why create this resource video?

‘Ike Outside the Box, was created in response to a question asked by HawaiiKidsCAN to their WAVE (We Are Voices of Excellence) student advocates. It contains some of my favorite online resources that’s free! Question:  How do you keep learning during COVID 19 #socialdistancing? Please share.

Now, share your blessings and pass on the ‘ike you gain. Imua Lauhoe!
